Radiolab - Musical Language
Yesterday I listened to an amazing episode of Radiolab on the correlation between Language & Music. Interesting tidbit learned, Chinese children are 9 times more likely to have perfect pitch than American children. Perfect pitch to Asian musicians, who grew up in Asia, is considered standard and not special. Scientists believe this is due to the fact that Asian languages are tonal whereas English is not a tonal language. This allows Asian musicians to develop perfect pitch far easier than their American counterparts.
